California congressman appearing at fundraiser has ties to Columbus

A California congressman investigating Russian influence in the 2016 presidential election will headline a fundraiser for the Bartholomew County Democratic Party.

U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) will attend a fundraising reception from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Hotel Indigo, 400 Brown St. Although admission to Sunday’s reception is $100 at the door, advance tickets may be purchased online for $75 at barthdems.org.

A local couple, Will and Katheryn Watts, were influential in persuading Swalwell to attend the Columbus fundraiser — they are the parents of Brittany Watts Swalwell, who married the congressman in 2016.
