Art students plan community show

Members of Jennings County High School’s Advanced Placement art class had the opportunity to set up an art show at the Stellar Building, 50 Short St. in downtown North Vernon, on Thursday.

Each student is required to display between five and 10 of their art pieces within one of the rooms of the building, and are even welcome to sell their work. The show took the place of the students’ semester exam in the class. Pieces on display include portraits, dresses and photographs.

The students’ work is a sample of what they do throughout the year in the college-based class. It is also a chance for students to experience setting up such a show and take pride in the work they have put into their art.

This is the second year that the show opportunity has been offered to students.

The show will be opened to the public at 6 p.m. June 1. During this time, visitors will have the chance to view the show, speak to the artists and possibly buy some of the artists’ work.

In addition, Bobby K. Owens, an artist that has been working on an installation piece for the city of North Vernon, will unveil his art piece.
