Pursuit leads to arrest of Edinburgh man driving stolen vehicle

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies arrested an Edinburgh man who led them on a chase after the vehicle he was driving was reported stolen from Circle K in Taylorsville.

Deputy Matt Bush was at East and Mulberry streets in Edinburgh when he saw the stolen vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on East Street at 2:33 p.m. Saturday, deputies said.

When Bush attempted to stop the vehicle, a pursuit began, traveling through Edinburgh before the vehicle ran off the road and the driver fled on foot, with deputies following him.

Bush saw the driver, later identified as Christopher D. Branum, 33, of 503 W. Park St., Edinburgh, enter a residence in the 500 block of West Park Drive, deputies said.

Branum was arrested on preliminary charges of auto theft, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, reckless driving, operating a vehicle without ever receiving a driver’s license and a court order, deputies said.

Branum was being held in the Bartholomew county Jail in lieu of $70,000 bond, jail officials said.
