From so close to queen

NORTH VERNON — This year, the crown finally fit.

Excitement filled the air at the Jennings County Fair queen pageant on May 26 at Jennings County High School’s auditorium, as contestants and spectators awaited word on who would win the title.

Finally, the long wait was over. Adrianna Gasper was named queen.

“I am just so excited,” said Adrianna Gasper, who was first runner up last year, and was named Fair Princess in 2014.

Gasper competed with 10 other candidates for the title, including her own sister Eliza Gasper, who busily took photos of her sister in her new crown.

“This is just so very, very exciting,” Eliza Gasper said.

Adrianna Gasper, the daughter of Jim and Alisa Gasper, is a junior at Purdue University, where she is studying animal science and marketing. She has been active in 4-H activities for 12 years and now serves as an adult leader.

She and the rest of her court will represent the community at the Jennings County Fair, June 11-16, and Gasper will compete for the title Indiana State Fair queen.

“I am excited about all of it. The fair, the livestock show, the pink buggy, going to the State Fair, but most of all I am just excited about being a good influence and a good role model in my role as queen,” Gasper said.

The rest of her court is:

First runner-up: Hailey Brown

Second runner-up: Olivia Vanosdol

Third runner-up: Reina Pucket

Laremie Maschino was named Miss Congeniality.

Eleven queen contestants participated in interviews during the pageant and competed in evening wear, professional attire and hobby outfit categories.

Competing in the same pageant categories were six candidates vying for the title of the Jennings County Fair princess. Alicia Sporleder was selected as this year’s princess.

Fair board president Randy Shepherd spoke to the audience during the pageant and promised this would be “a very exciting year at the fair.” He cited improvements to the fairgrounds, and a schedule that includes live music performances every night and stock car races that will be “like bumper cars on steroids.”
