New ‘business center’ being considered in Edinburgh

The public presentation of a proposed new 65-acre business center northwest of the Edinburgh Premium Outlets has been tabled until next month.

Although the Bartholomew County Plan Commission met Wednesday specifically to hold a public hearing on the proposed Driftwood Center, members instead voted to continue the hearing until their July 11 meeting.

The continuance was requested by Rik L. Sanders, Senior Director of Surveys for E.R. Gray & Associates, who said the staff of the Columbus-Bartholomew County Planning Department have expressed concerns regarding the first draft of the preliminary plat that are still being addressed.

“We need to work with the developer to get those concerns satisfied,” Sanders said.

The developers of Driftwood Center are mainly interested in creating commercial properties, Breeden Inc. President Mark Pratt said in a telephone interview.

“We do have some land that might be used for residential purposes, but our primary intent is commercial,” said Pratt, who is expected to make next month’s presentation.
