Columbus racer notches first win in two years

Logan Hupp of Columbus had not raced his sprint car since 2016. June 9 at Twin Cities Raceway Park in Vernon, where Hupp scored his last feature win two years ago, he climbed back behind the wheel and went to Victory Lane in his return to the race track.

“The last time I raced was at Twin Cities two years ago. I was going to retire from racing. Then me and my wife Taylor bought close to 25 acres and got married and figured I would be too busy to race. So the car was sitting here, and we decided it was time to get it back out,” the 25-year-old Columbus East High School graduate said.

Hupp’s family-owned DRC Chassis car is sponsored by Advance Heating and Air Conditioning, Whitetail Essentials Deer Mineral, Garage Doors Unlimited, Cortland Diner and BandE Lawncare.

Michael Fischesser of Cincinnati finished second to Hupp, followed by Garrett Abrams of Rushville, Columbus native J.J. Hughes and Justin Owen of Harrison, Ohio.

Marty O’Neal of Spencer made it two in a row in the crate late model division, driving the Larry Hartwell-owned MasterSbilt race car. Points leader Mark Barber of North Vernon was second, with Jim Couch of Hamilton, Ohio, taking third. Dylan Norman of Bedford was fourth, and Tyler Collins of North Vernon took fifth.

Troy Clark of North Vernon returned to Victory Lane in the pure stock division, taking the feature win over Mickey Hines of Scipio, William Burton of North Vernon, Kevin Applegate of North Vernon and Seth Hull of Versailles.

Tucker Chastain of Bedford won the super stock feature for his first career feature win. Ross Smith of Columbus came across the finish line in second, followed by Jeremy Helton of Paris Crossing, Troy Clark and Bobby Burton of Columbus.

John Arcaro of Metamora won the modified main, winning over John Trowbridge of North Vernon, Adam Love of Greendale, Mike Bechelli of Elizabethtown and Eli Johnson of Nashville.

Donnie Modesty of Seymour brought his hornet home in first to take the feature event over Gage Clark of Cross Plains, Hunter Perry of North Vernon, Warren Laufer of Madison and North Vernon’s Andy Anderson.

Tonight, Twin Cities will host Fan Appreciation Night with a program consisting of crate late models, hornets, pure stocks, super stocks and modifieds. For more information, visit twincitiestrack.com.
