BCSC administrators, support staff get 2.5 percent raises

The pay for Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. administrators and support staff will increase next month.

BCSC school board members on Monday voted 5-0 to approve 2.5 percent pay increases for 1,300 individuals, the largest number of which have support jobs. Board members Jill Shedd and Rich Stenner were absent from the meeting.

The pay increases, which take effect July 1, will cost the school corporation about $200,000, said Chad Phillips, assistant superintendent for financial services.

Teachers will receive a $1,200 step increase in 2018-19 under an agreement with the Columbus Educators Association that was approved last fall, compared to average teacher raises for 2017-18 of 3.2 percent, Phillips said.

In contract negotiations with the teacher’s union prior to 2017, pay scale increases were a flat percentage for each year of the agreement, Phillips said. Those agreements approved by the board also included the same percentage increase for support staff and administrators, he said.

Support staff and administrators received a 2 percent salary bump last year.

“Because 2017 was a unique year in which teachers were transitioned to a pay schedule, not all teachers received a flat percentage,” Phillips said.
