Bartholomew County 4-H Fair selects princess

A new Bartholomew County 4-H Fair princess has been selected.

Chloe Krueger, 13, will be an eighth grade student at St. Peter’s Lutheran School this fall. She is the daughter of Scott and Joleen Krueger of Elizabethtown.

Chloe will make her first public appearance as Bartholomew County 4-H Fair princess during the fair queen pageant at 7 p.m. Sunday at Columbus North High School.

Sixteen contestants competed for the title Sunday at Columbus East High School. That compares to 13 contestants last year, said Debbie Comstock-John of the Hodge Podge Homemakers Extension Club, which planned this year’s princess contest.

Princess runner-up was Makena Jackson, 15, of Elizabethtown. Makena, the daughter of Robert and Cathy Jackson, will be a sophomore at Columbus East High School this fall.

The pageant was composed of four sections: Sunday-best attire, three-minute interviews, theme wear and formal gown.

For the theme-wear event, the girls dressed in clothing that symbolized something important to their identity. For example, an avid 4-H showman wore show clothing for the event, and another wore a cheerleading uniform.

“This (the princess pageant) is to introduce the younger girls to how to interview, how to be onstage, how to walk,” Comstock-John said. “This is to get them experience and exposure and hopefully then they will move on to the queen pageant.”

The girls will both make appearances at the upcoming Bartholomew County 4-H Fair, July 6-14.
