Saturday’s Amazing Race generates about $4,500

The Columbus Young Professionals’ Fourth Annual Amazing Race fundraiser Saturday generated an estimated $4,500 for future programming for its members, including local outreach efforts.

The format is similar to the televised “Amazing Race” reality competition, said Liz Worthington, the CYP liasion for the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce.

This year’s race focused on area nonprofits, with challenges targeting awareness and priority tasks to help each organization.

One of the challenges required teams to take $5 and buy as much produce as possible from the Columbus Farmer’s market downtown. That produce was then donated to Turning Point Domestic Violence Services.

Other nonprofits that the 24 teams helped throughout the day were: Sans Souci; Columbus Indiana Philharmonic; Lincoln-Central Neighborhood Family Center; Bartholomew County Public Library; Columbus Parks and Recreation; The Heritage Fund — the Community Foundation of Bartholomew County; Love Chapel; and the Columbus Farmer’s Market.

Winners were: Corner Ladies (Kaitlyn Yancey and Veronica Pirie), first place; Cooper (Nathan Cooper and Mackenzie Standeford), second; and Chips and Queso (Emily Behling & Matt Behling), third.

Best Attitude award went to Team Captain (Maranna & Ryan Hollist).

Samantha Gossett served as race organizer, and Katelyn Ice and Rachel Yancer as co-organizers.
