Swimmers shine in open water championships

Club Olympia finished sixth, and Donner Swim Club took 10th in Wednesday’s Indiana State Open Water Championships at Hueston Woods State Park in College Corner, Ohio.

Club Olympia’s Misha Machavariani won the boys 11-12-year-old 2K event in 26 minutes, 19.08 seconds. Rachel Sabotin finished second in the girls 15-and-over 4K in 51:26.16, and Nalanie Cortez took second in the girls 13-14 3K in 39:17.19.

Donner’s Olivia Morlok finished fourth in the girls 15-and-over 4K in 53:01.10. Abby Proffitt was sixth in the girls 10-and-under 1K (16:30.09).

Also for Club Olympia, Brady Beyer took sixth in the boys 13-14 3K (39:52.00), and Erica Samuel was ninth in the girls 15-and-over 4K (55:35.85). Daniella Preston finished 12th in the girls 11-12 2K (35:45.56), and Maggie Johnson was 17th in the girls 13-14 3K (44:49.47).

Also for Donner, Daniel Utterback finished 11th in the boys 13-14 3K (42:37.16). Karissa Miller took 21st in the girls 13-14 3K (47:39.92), and Jennifer Utterback was 32nd in the girls 15-and-over 4K (1:05:31.34).

Meanwhile, Donner had swimmers at two separate meets last weekend. Several of the high school athletes competed in against some college and professional swimmers at the IU visitbloomington.com Invitational at Indiana University, while younger swimmers competed in the FRST Summer Classic at Franklin High School.

At Franklin, Grier Lane won the girls 8-and-under 50 backstroke and finished second in the 50 freestyle.

Ainsley Sherlock took second in the girls 9-10 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke, third in the 200 freestyle, fourth in the 200 individual medley, fifth in the 100 freestyle, sixth in the 100 backstroke and 10th in the 50 butterfly.

Keaton Stephenson finished seventh in the boys 9-10 200 freestyle, eighth in the 50 butterfly and 200 IM, 11th in the 100 backstroke and 12th in the 100 freestyle and 50 breaststroke. Daniel Utterback was eighth in the boys 13-14 400 IM, 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle and 10th in the 200 freestyle.

In the girls 9-10 division, Cassidy Furnish placed ninth in the 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle, 12th in the 200 IM and 50 breaststroke, 13th in the 50 freestyle, 16th in the 100 freestyle, 21st in the 50 backstroke and 24th in the 100 backstroke. Abby Proffitt finished 10th in the 50 freestyle, 12th in the 100 freestyle, 13th in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly, 14th in the 50 backstroke, 15th in the 100 breaststroke, 21st in the 50 breaststroke and 22nd in the 50 butterfly. Connelly Furnish took 11th in the 100 breaststroke and 200 freestyle, 13th in the 200 IM, 14th in the 50 breaststroke and 100 backstroke, 16th in the 50 backstroke and 25th in the 50 freestyle.

At IU, Morlok finished seventh in the girls 1,500 freestyle, 10th in the 100 freestyle, 19th in the 400 IM, 23rd in the 400 freestyle, 47th in the 200 freestyle and 50th in the 200 IM.

Sam Russell placed seventh in the boys 800 freestyle, 11th in the 200 butterfly, 12th in the 50 breaststroke nad 200 beaststroke, 14th in the 100 breaststroke, 15th in the 400 IM, 18th in the 200 backstroke, 21st in the 400 freestyle, 23rd in the 200 freestyle, 27th in the 100 backstroke, 31st in the 200 IM and 32nd in the 100 butterfly.

Evan Patterson finished ninth in the boys 50 backstroke, 17th in the 50 butterfly, 18th in the 100 breaststroke, 23rd in the 50 freestyle, 24th in the 100 freestyle, 27th in the 200 freestyle and 34th in the 100 butterfly. Nick Green took 12th in the 800 freestyle, 31st in the 50 freestyle and 37th in the 100 butterfly.

Betsy King placed 12th in the girls 400 IM, 31st in the 50 freestyle, 42nd in the 100 butterfly, 49th in the 200 IM, 54th in the 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle and 55th in the 100 freestyle. Darby Coles was 15th in the 50 backstroke, 33rd in the 100 backstroke, 34th in the 400 freestyle, 37th in the 50 freestyle, 52nd in the 200 freestyle and 53rd in the 100 freestyle.

Karlie Brown finished 19th in the girls 200 butterfly, 27th in the 50 butterfly and 45th in the 100 butterfly. Jennifer Utterback took 19th in the 50 backstroke, 57th in the 50 freestyle and 65th in the 100 freestyle.
