Columbus police arrest North Vernon man on drug-related charges

Columbus police arrested a North Vernon man on drug-related charges and a parole warrant after being called by an individual seeking to speak to an officer.

Officers were sent at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday to the 1100 block of California Street, where they spoke to Nicholas L. Tackett, 26, of 6285 W. Hickory Hill Drive, North Vernon, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Tackett was sweating profusely and appeared to be under the influence of an unknown intoxicant, Harris said. Officers confirmed there was a parole warrant active for Tackett’s arrest.

Officers found methamphetamine and syringes in Tackett’s clothing during a search, Harris said. Tackett was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for medical clearance and later booked into the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a legend drug-injection device and the warrant.

Tackett was being held without bond at the Bartholomew County Jail, jail officials said.
