Around Town – July 17

Orchids to …

• to Justin Lienhoop for his letter to the editor urging re-thinking of the Riverfront project.

• the Trump administration for keeping us safe at the border.

• the people who keep the downtown flower pots looking so beautiful.

• Sherry Grimes for her letter to the editor Saturday.

• Lutheran Workcamp for working at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church to bring the work camp to Columbus.

• the kind couple that paid for my meal at the east side Dairy Queen on Sunday evening, from someone’s grandmother.

• Ken Fudge for his letter to the editor about the Riverfront, and its explanation of costs.

• the woman who ran out of the Walmart store into the parking lot to bring me the air conditioner filter that I left in the cart.

• John Phillips for burying our beloved old horse, Skittles, from the Marvins.

• Matt Vorndran for towing me when I ran out of gas.

• Ken Fudge for a well-said exact synopsis of what is not needed on the river between the two bridges, as this would end up being a black hole to dump money into from now on.

• the anonymous person at Skooter’s on Monday morning for paying for our breakfasts: your generosity was a surprise and a blessing.

• the team at Athens Animal Clinic and Jody at Faithful Friends In Passing for their help and support during the loss of our beloved dog, Carly.

Onions to …

• the person at the yard sale who thought my daughter was trying to take off with a backpack bear instead of paying for it.

• the letter writer for her biased, divisive, partisan letter.

• the letter writer who clearly hates anyone who disagrees with her.

• anyone who believes that the next round of indictments from Mueller won’t be for the Americans that worked with the Russians.

• the person who borrowed my favorite ball-point pen without my permission and broke it.

• the pastor and elder who never check on an older member who lives alone and has little family around.

• the person who keeps trying to defend those who illegally enter our country, often falsely claiming they are asylum-seekers and saying their crimes are only misdemeanors.

• those who support an American president standing on foreign soil criticizing several components of our American government.

• all managers at businesses that allow people to panhandle in their parking lot.

• those naive folks who think that every illegal alien is seeking asylum, and by dismissing a misdemeanor as trivial when the U.S. Constitution provides a means for a sitting U.S. President to be impeached for “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

• the unbelievable letter to the editor that was filled with biases, from a proud Democratic American.

• whoever has been stealing bikes around town, grow up and grow a heart.

• neighbors critical of the tall weeds, we have arthritis leg pain and can only do little at a time.

• the pastor who preached politics in his message over the weekend, who should remember that we are a country that supposedly separates church and state.

• our state government for its insatiable appetite for taxpayer dollars, such as the internet sales tax expansion.

• everyone who believes Trump is the worst President ever.

• a leader that lies a lot, which doesn’t make him a better liar.

• the pastor who gave an incomplete description of the situation on the border.

• those who do not know that the previous administration put children in cages.

• the person that wrote the letter to the editor regarding immigration.

• those who think that parents who undertake a dangerous journey to prevent their children from being harmed should be blamed for anything, let alone our us immigration problem.

• anyone who thinks we need a 10-story hotel downtown causing additional traffic jams connected to an old theater that is unlikely to be revived.

• the president for praising dictators such as Putin and Kim Jung-un.

• telemarketing companies that keep calling when I am on the do-not-call list and to the government that does not enforce what they promised to do.
