Lilly Scholarship applications open

Online applications are available for the 2019 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship, administered by the Heritage Fund — The Community Foundation of Bartholomew County and Independent Colleges of Indiana.

Lilly Scholarships provide full-ride scholarships for tuition, required fees and a special allocation of up to $900 per year for required books and equipment for four years of undergraduate study on a full-time basis that leads to a baccalaureate degree at any accredited Indiana public or private college or university.

Two Lilly Scholarships will be awarded to Bartholomew County students for 2019.

Applicants must reside in Bartholomew County, be on track to graduate with a diploma from an accredited public or private Indiana High School by the end of June 2019 and have at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must demonstrate significant school involvement, community service, good character and leadership skills and financial need.

Finalists must be available for personal interviews with the selection committee.

Recipients must intend to pursue a baccalaureate course of study full time beginning in the fall of 2019 at an accredited public or private college or university in Indiana.

Applications and required materials must be submitted by 4 p.m. Aug. 31.

The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program aims to help raise the level of educational attainment in Indiana and to increase the ability of Indiana community foundations to enhance the quality of life for the state’s residents.

Since the program began in 1998, 45 Bartholomew County students have been named Lilly Endowment Community Scholars. The endowment has awarded more than $3 million to these students, according to the Heritage Fund.
