A local man was arrested Thursday on several felony charges after he led officers on a pursuit, riding a motorcycle that had been reported as stolen.
Columbus police saw the motorcycle on Gladstone Avenue at 12:35 a.m. Thursday and noted it did not have a license plate, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman. When officers attempted to stop the motorcycle, the operator — later identified as Richard L. Gahwiller, 43, of 613 Parkway Drive — sped up.
The officers pursued Gahwiller through Columbus’ east side until he stopped on Clifty Street and was arrested, Harris said.
A check of the motorcycle’s serial number revealed it had been reported stolen in Columbus in 2016, Harris said.
Gahwill was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of felony auto theft, felony theft and felony resisting law enforcement, Harris said.
He was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $22,500 bond, jail officials said.
