JACKSON COUNTY — Indiana State Police are investigating an accident on State Road 11 this morning in which the driver suffered a medical emergency and became unresponsive, and was later pronounced dead at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.

Troopers said John Andrew Kidd, 38, Martinsville, was driving a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup truck north on State Road 11 about three miles south of Interstate 65 when he suffered what appeared to be a medical emergency and became unresponsive, police said.

A passenger, his daughter, Kennedy Kidd, 13, grabbed the steering wheel and was able to maintain control of the vehicle as it continued to travel for several miles north on State Road 11. She was able to steer the vehicle off the roadway into a small thicket of brush to bring the vehicle to a stop.

Jackson County emergency medical services and Indiana State Police Senior Trooper, David Owsley arrived on scene and immediately began attempts to revive the driver. The driver was transported to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour where he was later pronounced dead. Kennedy Kidd was not injured, police said.

Autopsy and toxicology reports are pending at this time.
