North Vernon police arrest five on drug-related charges

NORTH VERNON — Five people were arrested Tuesday after North Vernon Police officers received a report of possible drug activity in the area of Sixth and Summit streets.

Officers Scotty Willis and Isaac Barkes were sent to the location at 4 a.m. Tuesday and found three people and drug paraphernalia.

Sgt. Kyle Hall said all three were arrested at the scene. They included:

  • Stacey R. Carrigg, 31, Butlerville, on preliminary felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a syringe.
  • Jessie D. Russell, 23, North Vernon, on a preliminary misdemeanor charge of possession of paraphernalia.
  • Amberley R. Day, 29, North Vernon, on preliminary felony charges of dealing in a controlled substance, possession of a syringe, trafficking with an inmate, obstruction of justice, and misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia and resisting law enforcement.

Hall then obtained information about an address int he 400 block of Sixth Street and officers served a search warrant there.

Hall said officers found a large quantity of drug paraphernalia, prescription pills not in their prescribed containers, a small amount of methamphetamine and five pre-packaged containers of suspected heroin, police said.

Arrested were:

  • Jeffery A. Bower, 36, North Vernon, on preliminary felony charges of dealing in a controlled substance and maintaining a common nuisance, and misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia.
  • Calin Thomas, 31, North Vernon, on preliminary felony charges of dealing in a controlled substance and maintaining a common nuisance, and misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia.
