Local 4-H’ers advance to state tractor contest

Seven Bartholomew County 4-H members advanced to 4-H tractor state competition after qualifying at an area contest.

The state contest starts at 8 a.m. Aug. 11 at Indiana State Fair Coliseum. The contest consists of knowledge of safety and maintenance practices, parts identification and driving skills by maneuvering through a defined course.

The following Bartholomew County 4-H’ers will be participating:

Junior Lawn and Garden: John Beck

Senior Lawn and Garden: Daniel Murphy

Junior Zero Turn Mower: Heidi Murphy and Joel Murphy

Senior Zero Turn Mower: Wyatt Romine

Senior Ag Tractor: Joel Beck and Brendan Boewe

Daniel Murphy and Brendan Boewe will attempt to defend their 2017 state titles.

The Area 1 4-H tractor contest was conducted July 28 at the Decatur County Fairgrounds. Area 1 consists of nine counties in the southeastern corner of Indiana, and 63 contestants participated.

Eighteen contestants from Area 1 advanced to the Indiana State Fair competition contest with 180 other participants from around the state.
