Two arrested on drug-related charges after traffic stop

A traffic stop on southbound U.S. 31 near Lowell Road has led to the arrest of two people on drug-related charges.

Bartholomew County Sheriff Sgt. Kris Weisner stopped a vehicle driven by Caren Lea-Ann Piper, 26, Seymour at 10:37 p.m. Wednesday, deputies said.

Weisner was speaking with Piper and passenger Christian Najera, 21, of 4972 N. County Road 150W, when Deputy Dustin Newland saw drug-related paraphernalia inside the vehicle, deputies said.

K9 Bolt alerted to narcotics inside the vehicle and a search revealed methamphetamine,  marijuana and nine methamphetamine pipes, deputies said.

Piper was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and operating a vehicle without ever obtaining a driver’s license, deputies said.

Najera was arrested on a preliminary charge of possession of paraphernalia.
