Local NAACP events focus on election

The Bartholomew County Area Chapter of the NAACP will host three meetings urging people to vote in the Nov. 6 election to “defeat hate,” as organizers put it.

That focus reflects the national NAACP focus for the year, “Defeat hate — vote.”

  • Local Democratic Party Chairman Robert Hyatt will speak at the first gathering at 6 p.m. Thursday in the second-floor board room of the Doug Otto Center, 1531 13th St. in Columbus.
  • A Republican Party representative to be determined will speak at a meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 20 at the same location.
  • A collection of candidates will speak at a question-and-answer meeting at 6 p.m. Oct. 18, also at the Doug Otto Center.
