Columbus firefighters called to northside home fire

A home on Columbus’ north side was damaged by fire Sunday afternoon.

Columbus firefighters were called to the one-story three-bedroom frame home at 3303 Northbrook Drive just east of the Columbus Municipal Airport at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

The home’s resident, Lucy Neal, 83, said she was sleeping, but woke up when a smoke alarm went off and she discovered the home filled with smoke.

Neal was able to get out of the home on her own, and was sitting at a neighbor’s driveway watching the firefighters at the scene. She said she has lived at the home for about 10 years and that her grandson, who was not home, also lives there.

A front window on the home was burned through and firefighters were ventilating smoke out the front door and back patio door of the home.

No injuries were reported. Firefighters at the scene said the extent of the damage and the cause are still being determined.
