I have seen that the Ft. Myers Police Department in Florida had laid to rest one of their officers. I reflect a great deal about that at times.
My family has been involved with Columbus Police Department for many years. A line of duty death is something you never want to imagine. But you need to know that it crosses our officers’ minds along with those of their families.
Police officers are expected to be:
- Street attorneys
- Emergency care providers
- Investigators
- Referees
- Calm and reassuring souls
- Traffic enforcers
They also have to maintain current educational standards, all for the privilege of serving us (the community).
Most tax-paying citizens would not think of providing this service for any kind of money, let alone what they earn. As citizens we should enjoy the protection they provide, and in what ever way we can respect and admire these dedicated offices and their families in any way possible.
