Deputies arrest two after traffic stop

A Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputy arrested two people after a traffic stop in the 6000 block of Jonesville Road.

Deputy Andrew Dougan stopped the vehicle at 9 p.m. Friday and spoke to the driver, later identified as Edwin H. Berrera, 25, Seymour, who told deputies he didn’t have a driver’s license.

The passenger gave Dougan a name, which was later determined to be false, deputies said. The passenger admitted to misleading the deputy about his identity and identified himself as Edward Velarde, 23, Seymour.

Deputy Matt Bush with K9 Diesel arrived to assist Dougan and the dog alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, deputies said.

Velarde was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of marijuana and false informing. He was released from jail after posting $7,000 bond, jail officials said.
