Two Louisville men were arrested after Columbus police found drugs and a gun in their vehicle during a traffic stop.
Columbus Police Officer Drake Maddix stopped the vehicle at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday on I-65 near the 66 mile marker after he noticed it had an expired license plate, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Maddix spoke with the driver, James R. Graham, 46, Louisville, and his passenger, Michael D. Lewis, 28, Louisville, and said both appeared to be nervous.
Maddix located a loaded handgun in the vehicle’s glovebox and confirmed that Graham did not have a valid permit to have the weapon, Harris said. Several syringes were in the vehicle along with about 2 pounds of marijuana which was found in the vehicle’s trunk, Harris said.
Graham was arrested on preliminary charges of felony possession of a handgun without a license, felony possession of a legend drug injection device, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, Harris said.
Lewis was arrested on preliminary charges of felony dealing in marijuana, felony possession of a legend drug injection device, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, Harris said.
