Two arrested after deputies stop vehicle on U.S. 31

Two people were arrested after a traffic stop in the area of North U.S. 31 and West County Road 550N.

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Dylan Prather stopped a vehicle there Wednesday and learned a passenger, Joshua Hartford, 30, Shelbyville, was being sought on a Bartholomew County warrant.

When Hartford was arrested, deputies found methamphetamine in his possession and marijuana and drug-related paraphernalia located near the passenger seat, deputies said.

Hartford was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia in addition to the warrant, deputies said.

The driver, David W. Smith, 40, of 2770 N. Rogers St., was also arrested on preliminary charges of dealing in marijuana and possession of paraphernalia, deputies said.
