Faculty exhibition series debuts Sept. 7

The Indiana University J. Irwin Miller Architecture Program will present Part One of the Indiana University Miller M.Arch Founding Faculty + Staff Exhibition Series from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 7 in the gallery of the program’s home, The Republic Building, at 333 Second St. in downtown Columbus.

The exhibition, “Spotlight: Steven Baker and Jennifer Riley “Floor to Wall,” will run from Sept. 7 through Oct. 21.

The exhibition and opening reception are free and open to the public.

Baker, shop coordinator for the master’s program, is an active member of the Furniture Society and the American Craft Council. His designs “are driven by forward thinking, organic solutions to functionality that are executed with a high level of craft and personal style,” an IU news release said.

Riley, an associate professor who teaches visual studies in the program, has earned acclaim for her solo art exhibitions in New York, Boston and other U.S. cities, and received the Award in Painting form the Massachusetts State Cultural Council in 2004. She’s been making color-rich abstract and semi-abstract paintings for years, but more recently her work has shifted from “a Pop-inflected, postmodernist tilt toward a purer form of classical abstraction,” IU said.

Gallery hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at 333 Second St.
