Hauser senior remains in critical condition

HOPE — The condition of a Hauser High School senior injured last Wednesday in a motor-vehicle accident just off the school campus is unchanged.

Erin Newcomb, 17, of Columbus, was critically injured in a crash at 11:55 a.m. Aug. 29 in Hope. She was among three Hauser students who were trapped in the wreckage for nearly an hour while rescue personnel worked to free them.

Newcomb, a Hauser senior, continued to be listed as in critical condition as of 2 p.m. Tuesday at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital, a spokesperson said. She had been transported by medical helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Three other students were all in stable condition when treated for their injuries, and have since been released from the hospital.
