North graduate has best tourney for new team

Holly Anderson opened her Purdue-Fort Wayne golf career with a bang, finishing in a tie for 16th in Youngstown State’s Roseann Schwartz Invitational.

Anderson, a sophomore from Columbus North who played at Ball State last year, shot rounds of 71 and 83 Monday and Tuesday at the Mill Creek Park North Course in Boardman, Ohio. Although she played as an individual, her 154 total was the best of the six PFW golfers who competed.

East, Hauser graduates square off in New Mexico

Athletes who have won the past three The Republic Volleyball Player of the Year honors went head-to-head Saturday in New Mexico’s Lobo Classic.

Cortney VanLiew, a sophomore from Columbus East, helped lead Florida Gulf Coast to the tournament championship with a 3-0 record. She led the Eagles with 11 kills, including one on match point, in Saturday’s 25-20, 25-10, 25-23 win against Eastern Kentucky.

Sydney Schoen, a freshman from Hauser, had seven digs for Eastern Kentucky. The Colonels had fallen to New Mexico in three sets and New Mexico State in five sets on Friday.

East sophomore wins Indianapolis Junior Open

Kody Reynolds carded a 9-over-par 153 for 36 holes to win the boys 16-18-year-old division in last weekend’s Indianapolis Junior Open.

Reynolds, a sophomore at Columbus East, shot rounds of 78 and 75 at The Legends Golf Club in Franklin. He won by eight shots.

Andrew Singer of Columbus finished fifth in the boys 10-and-under division with a 190.
