Utility company hits gas line on Caldwell Place

Columbus firefighters were sent to the scene of a gas leak in the 2400 block of Caldwell Place at 10:13 a.m. today after a utility crew hit a gas line while operating a backhoe.
Vectren reported that a 2-inch gas line was struck and repairs were expected to take about 45 minutes.
Firefighters said an American Utilities crew hit the gas line, said Capt. Mike Wilson, Columbus Fire Department spokesman.
Caldwell Place will be temporarily closed to traffic between 25th Street and 23rd Street until repairs are completed. No evacuations were necessary and no injuries were reported.
Vectren said utility locations were marked prior to the utility company digging at the site, Wilson said.
Columbus firefighters are remaining at the scene until repairs are completed.
