We are students from Hauser High School, and we disagree with Judy McCormick’s letter on Aug. 31. McCormick said that administrators in school have no control over students and cellphones. They actually have a lot of control.

Administrators can take phones. Teachers could call the dean and the student could be suspended.

There are many reasons students may need cellphones at school. Kids may need to call 911 if there is an emergency in the school, or relatives could be sick. You can use a phone for a calculator. teachers may ask students to search things on phones. Sports after school may be canceled, so students may need to call their parents.

We agree that Asia is ahead of us in education, but some Asian countries are still kind of low.

Cellphones are not the cause of America being behind other countries in education.
