Pedestrian apparently struck by motorist dies

A 24-year-old Jennings County man apparently struck by a vehicle early Sunday morning has died.

Davon Lee Shine of North Vernon died Tuesday at University of Louisville Hospital, where he was taken in critical condition after the incident, reported at 4:38 a.m. Sunday near County Road 700W in Jennings County.

State troopers and Jennings County officers responding to the scene found Shine lying next to the roadway, said Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, spokesman for the Indiana State Police Versailles Post.

Evidence at the scene indicated Shine had been struck by a motorist in a Toyota that had been traveling east on U.S. 50, Wheeles said.

Investigators are asking for the public’s help in locating the vehicle and driver who struck Shine. Police also would like to speak with anyone who saw Shine in the area of the crash Sunday morning or had information about where he was coming from or going to.

People with information are encouraged to contact Lt. Jeff Jones with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department at 812-346-5111 or Indiana State Police Trooper Matt Holley at 812-689-5000.

Shine’s arrangements are pending at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon.
