‘Awesome day’: Mill Race Marathon newcomer wins truck

A New Palestine woman competing for the first time in the Mill Race Marathon wrapped up her day in a state of shock after being named the winner of a brand new truck.

Kara Kidwell, 31, was chosen as this year’s recipient of a 2018 Ram 2500 Cummins Crew Cab, a heavy-duty diesel-powered truck worth at least $50,000.

Kidwell, who completed the half-marathon, was emotional, wiping away tears as she walked to the stage while being cheered by the crowd shortly after her name was announced.

Individuals had to complete either the half- or full-marathon to be eligible for consideration.

“Thank you so much,” Kidwell told the crowd.

Kidwell was joined by her husband Matt, who also participated in the half-marathon, and said she never expected to be named as a potential winner of the truck. The couple chose a black truck awarded by Columbus’ Bob Poynter Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Hyundai and Cummins Inc.

Kara Kidwell also said it was a nice way to end her day at the Mill Race Marathon as she stood by her truck for a photo.

“Today, I was thinking what I would make my Facebook status if I actually won,” she said with a smile.

Matt Kidwell said he was also surprised, saying his wife’s reaction after her name was called is something he won’t forget.

“She just ran and was like, “Yeah!” he said. “It’s just an awesome day.”
