Cummins documentary to air today on WTIU

PBS channel WTIU will rebroadcast the documentary "Clessie Cummins: Hoosier Inventor" at 6:30 p.m. today.

The film details the life of a Hoosier farmboy with a knack for innovation — so much so that he eventually founded the Columbus-based Cummins Engine Co. The father of the American diesel truck engine, Cummins combined elbow grease, a keen mind, and rural pragmatism to co-found what has became Cummins Inc., a Fortune 500 international diesel and alternative fuel engines firm.

Through a series of hardships and achievements, Cummins never stopped asking "what if?" His formal education ended in the eighth grade, but he never stopped experimenting due to his inexhaustible sense of wonder.

Cummins’ inventions earned 33 U.S. patents during his lifetime.
