Missing 9-year-old found in bushes near Taylorsville school

A 9-year-old Taylorsville girl was found by Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies lying in bushes near Taylorsville Elementary School early Friday morning.

Sheriff’s deputies were sent to the school at 7:32 p.m. Thursday about a report of a missing juvenile. Deputy Brandon Sellers contacted family members who said they last saw her walking toward the school, deputies said.

Deputies checked the Taylorsville area and businesses and found the girl just after midnight, deputies said. Deputy Matt Bush and Sellers located the girl in bushes near the school, deputies said. Because of the cool and wet weather conditions, she was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital to be checked, and she had no injuries, deputies said.

Columbus Fire Department used a drone to assist in the search.

Sheriff Matt Myers provided this “what to do” list if your child goes missing:

  • Immediately call law enforcement and provide them with up-to-date information and photos
  • Make sure your child knows his/her address and telephone numbers of family members.
  • Provide a physical description including height, weight, hair and eye color. Also provide distinguishing characteristics such as whether the child wears glasses or contacts, has braces or birthmarks, etc.
  • Provide medical information about medications, allergies and your physician’s name and contact numbers
  • Fingerprints are critical to complete a child’s identification.
  • Be sure to take a head-and-shoulders photo of your child and update it every six months.
