North girls finish seventh, boys 10th in Twilight meet

TERRE HAUTE — Columbus North’s girls finished seventh, and the Bull Dog boys took 10th in the Nike Valley Twilight Meet Saturday night at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, which hosts the state finals.

The North girls finished with 197 points. Beavercreek (Ohio) won with 59, and Carmel edged Brebeuf Jesuit 84-87 for second.

Olivia Morlok led the Bull Dogs with a 17th-place finish in 18 minutes, 59.4 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Mackenzie Barnett took 44th in 19:50.8, while Aric Tong was 50th (20:00.0), Sydney Geckler 55th (20:10.8), Emma Smith 60th (20:19.2), Abbey Landini 76th (20:20.7) and Kennedy Kerber 112th (22:14.0).

The North boys scored 288 points. Carmel won with 83, while Cathedral edged Bloomington South 89-91 for second.

John Sluys finished 16th in 16:06.3 to lead the Bull Dogs. Sam Horak took 40th in 16:35.9, while Rishi Poludasu was 50th (16:44.3), Carson Littrell 93rd (17:30.6), Jarrett Embry 101st (17:41.9), Eric Huang 107th (17:48.1) and Paxton Rush 121st (18:09.9).

A few of North’s normal boys varsity runners led the Bull Dogs to the title in the Freshman/Sophomore race. North scored 32 points to 61 for runner-up Bloomington South.

Collin Pruitt and Matt Newell finished third and fourth in 16:47.9 and 16:51.0 to lead the Bull Dogs. Reese Kilbarger-Stumpff took sixth in 17:10.7, while Evan Carr was ninth (17:23.0) and Will Kiel 10th (17:26.6).
