Autopsy, toxicology results pending in fatal accident

Autopsy and toxicology results are pending in the death of a Westport man in a Sept. 22 car accident.

Indiana State Police said Joshua L. Clark, 38, of Westport, died in the accident on County Road 900E approaching Talkington Road in the eastern Bartholomew County community of Burnsville at 1:08 a.m. Sept. 22.

Clark was driving a white 2005 Nissan Maxima south on County Road 900E when the vehicle left the road and struck the end of a concrete bridge, according to state police. The impact caused the bridge to separate from the road, according to accident investigators.

The Nissan caught fire after the impact, state police said. Clay Township firefighters extinguished the fire and police found Clark’s body inside the vehicle, investigators said.

State police said it is unknown why the vehicle left the road.

Clark was a lifelong resident of Decatur County and graduated from South Decatur High School in 1999. He was employed by AT&T as a service technician.

Bartholomew County Coroner Clayton Nolting said cause of death is pending the results from the autopsy and toxicology tests. Bartholomew County officials are assisting Indiana State Police in the investigation.
