Pedestrian involved in State Road 46 accident has died

A pedestrian who was severely injured Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle on State Road 46 on Wednesday has died.

Columbus police said officers were informed Jessica D. Hays, 30, Columbus, died Friday morning at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.

Earlier this week, hospital officials had mistakenly reported Hays had been treated and released from the hospital, after mixing up her condition report with another patient. Hays was in critical condition at Methodist before her death, hospital officials said Friday.

Just before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Columbus police were sent to the accident at West State Road 46 and Carrie Lane on Columbus’ west side. The investigating officers also spoke with Jayne H. Rogan, 72, of Columbus, who was the driver of the 2003 Toyota passenger car that was involved in crash.

Witnesses reported that Hays and another woman were attempting to cross State Road 46 while pushing shopping carts when Hays was struck by the passenger car.
