Letter: Socialism a dangerous system

This letter provides my opinion of socialism, as a response to the letter from Tom Lane about a complex world. Mr. Lane makes some excellent points such as the evils of communism, the complexity of socialism within a Republic (we are not a pure democracy), the need for a government to promote the common good and the fact that the USA is well along the road to socialism.

I submit that we are already too far on that road. Please note that the second S of USSR is socialist, and that Nazi was a derogatory abbreviation for National Socialism.

First, it is not appropriate to compare capitalism to socialism as if they are directly competing systems. Socialism has a primary element of government control, which sooner or later becomes totalitarianism. Under socialism, the individual has no worth except as he/she adds to the state. Lacking that, he/she is a disposable.

We are already sliding there with the murder of the unborn, the infirm and the aged. We saw this with the use of a police force surrounding the hospital in the latest case of parents in the United Kingdom wanting to take their infant out of the country for treatment.

The previous presidential candidate was very clear about her intentions: Some deeply held religious beliefs will need to be changed, by rule of law as needed. The totalitarian nature of socialism initially seems great — as long as the rules or handouts benefit you.

Although pure capitalism had its ills, they were effectively countered by allowing organized labor and using anti-trust legislation, not by direct government control.

Secondly, socialism as an economic system does not work. Venezuela is a disaster. Argentina is struggling as is most of South and Central America. As in my previous letter, Dinesh D’Souza in "Death of a Nation" defines the welfare program as the creation of a new slave ‘lantation. A theory called "The Cycle of Democracy" contends that, as candidates offer more “freebies,” voters come to demand more, and the promises increase until the whole system overloads and crashes into anarchy.

As much as Mr. Lane decries capitalism, does anyone really believe that a government-controlled system works better than free enterprise? Aren’t the current government systems in varying degrees of trouble?

In summary, socialism is a system to control people while failing to live up to its Utopian promises. Given the violent and bully tactics being used by "the left," including the well-orchestrated and vicious “practice of ritual defamation” used in the Supreme Court justice review, try to imagine what evil these folks would do if they were in control of a totalitarian government.

Mr. Lane declares that not all Democrats are socialists. Perhaps some are not, but if they vote for the current democrat candidates they are either duped or complicit in supporting socialism. I hope there are enough decent honorable people who will see this danger and use legal means to vote out the current "Democrats."
