Columbus police recover stolen handgun, make arrest

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus Police Department officers arrested a Seymour man and recovered a stolen handgun after responding to a reported disturbance on the city’s west side.

At about 3:45 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to the 2300 block of Merchants Mile and spoke with Kevin A. Hackman, 44.

While patting down Hackman, officers recovered a .380-caliber handgun in Hackman’s back pants pocket. A check of the firearm’s serial number revealed it was reported stolen out of Jackson County, said Lt. Matt Harris, public information officer for the Columbus Police Department.
