Strong turnout for quilt show

Quilts made by two Columbus women were among the top award winners at the Oct. 6-7 “A Gathering of Quilts” show at Mill Race Center.

The 18th biennial show drew about 400 visitors, about twice the typical turnout, including residents from other cities and states, said Carol Walp of Hope, co-chair of the event.

“Not My Grandmother’s Flower Garden,” made by Cathy Bahnsen, earned the Viewer’s Choice Award, the Mayor’s Choice Award and the Excellence in Hand Quilting Award.

The Best of Show award went to Lois Griffith for her entry, “The Taupe Quilt.”

They were selected from more than 160 quilts in the show, which presented every two years by the 90-member Columbus Star Quilters and 30-member Evening Star Quilters.
