Services and studies

Bible Church of Columbus — Pastor Dave Marvin will conclude his series of messages, “Future Events: Picturesque or Puzzling?,” at the 10 a.m. Sunday service, when the church will be looking at the biblical description of the New Heaven and the New Earth. The church is at 3010 10th St., Columbus.

Life Group Bible Studies are available at 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday. The Children’s Ministries through grade 6 begin at 9:45 a.m. Teen Ministry will meet at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Additional Life Group Bible studies are available throughout the week.

Central Heights Church of God — Worship begins at 10:30 a.m. at the church, 3151 Sharon Lane, Columbus, led by Pastor Jason Johnson. Sunday school for all ages will begin at 9:30 a.m.

First Presbyterian — Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. at the church, 512 Seventh St., Columbus. This is Reformation Sunday, when the church will reflect on the story of King Solomon in I Kings 3. Solomon The sermon will be “Whose child is he?”

Infant and toddler care is available from 9:15 a.m. to noon Sunday.

The men’s and women’s support groups meet at 7 a.m. Fridays, and a second men’s support group of working-age men meets every Monday at 6:15 a.m.

People in the community in need of a meal are invited to Hot Meals offered 5 p.m. Friday, with entry through the glass doors on Franklin Street.

The church is LGBTQ-friendly, open and affirming to all.

First United Methodist — At the 9 a.m. traditional service and the 11 a.m. celebration service, the Rev. Lisa Cottingham will deliver the message, “God’s Faithfulness” at the church, 618 Eighth St., Columbus. The scripture will be Job 38:1-7; 34-41; Psalm 119:90. Sunday school for all ages begins at 10:10 a.m.

Childcare is available during both services.

Flintwood Wesleyan — The Amplify non-traditional service is at 9 a.m. Sunday and Sunday School classes are at 10 a.m. The Well traditional service is at 11 a.m. Both Amplify and The Well are held in the main sanctuary. The Prayer Team will meet at 8 a.m. Sunday School classes meet in their regular rooms at the church, located at 5300 E. 25th St., Columbus.

This is Missions Sunday, when the church will host The Boardmans, missionaries to the Czech Republic. Rev. Phil Boardman will speak during the morning services. The Missions Banquet is 6 p.m. today. Phil and Kristy Boardman will be sharing about their mission work.

Adult choir practice is 5 p.m. followed by the Sunday evening service at 6 p.m.

“In The Beginning …,” a small-group Bible study, meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays in The Friendship Center. It is studying the book of Genesis.

Grace Lutheran — Worship is at 8 and 10:30 a.m., with Sunday School for all ages at 9:25 a.m. The message is “Justification: The Article on Which the Church Stands or Falls,” based on Romans 3:21-31. A Reformation Hymn Festival will be celebrated at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. worship services.

Old Union United Church of Christ — Sunday’s 10 a.m. sermon, “Seeings Life’s Meaning,” marks the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost with text from Job 42:1-6, 10-17; Hebrews 7:23-28; and Mark 10:46-52. The church is located at 12703 N. County Road 50W, Edinburgh.

Sunday school will begin at 9 a.m. followed by fellowship at 9:40 a.m.

Wednesday Bible study will resume at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Petersville United Methodist — The Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry will deliver the message, “Right Now,” with Scripture from Corinthians 6:1-2, 16B shared by liturgist Bill Pershing. The choir will be singing special music, directed by Kathy Bush and accompanied by Chris Kimerling. Teresa Covert will lead the children’s time.

A time of fellowship will follow the worship service at the church, 2781 N. County Road 500E, Columbus. Parishoners will be encouraged to help with set-up for the Turkey Supper, Nov. 2-3.

Larry and Connie Nolting and Chris Kimerling will host the Monday night Bible study, meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday. New members are welcome at either of the classes.

The Sit and Stitch group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, also at the Nolting home. Prayer Group will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church with Barb Hedrick as leader.

The cranberry relish for the Turkey Supper will be made Wednesday, starting at 5 p.m.

St. Paul Lutheran — During the 8 a.m. and the 10:45 a.m. services Sunday, Pastor Doug Bauman will present the sermon “501” based on Romans 3:19-28.

During the Christian Education Hour at 9:30 a.m., Cheryl LaBelle, St. Paul director of Christian education, will be recognized for 15 years of service to the congregation.

At 10:45 a.m., Donald Wiley, assistant professor of Pastoral Ministry and Missions and director of the Spanish Language Church Worker Formation Program at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, will be preaching at the Spanish service in the Chapel, followed by a meal and fellowship in the Education Building.

The Aurora Circuit Reformation service will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 9901 Central Ave., Dillsboro, with Pastor Marcus Manley preaching.

Offerings from the service and the meal to follow will benefit the Aurora Circuit Church Workers Scholarship Fund.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbus — The service is at 10 a.m. Sunday. The Rev. Nic Cable will present his reading, “Remember Me: An All Ages Memorial Service,” where the church will create space for remembering loved ones who have died and look to how the church can continue to live with their memory in our hearts.

Westside Community — Pastor Robert Vester will lead the service at 10 a.m. Sunday at the church, on the corner of State Road 46 West and Tipton Lakes Boulevard, Columbus. The children’s program through grade 6 meets at 10 a.m.

The Ruby Tuesday Women’s Bible Study has begun a new study, “The Joy of Encouragement,” by David Jeremiah. This group meets from 10 to 11:15 a.m. each Tuesday at the church.

There is a Men’s and Women’s 7-week Bible Study that meets from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The Men’s study is “The Armor of God” and the Women’s study is “Gideon: Your Weakness, God’s Strength.”

The Outlet Youth Group for grades 7 to 12 meets from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Events

Brownstown United Methodist — The church will host a Soup Supper from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 2 in the church basement Fellowship Hall.

The meal will consist of soups, sandwiches and hotdogs, homemade desserts and drinks. Meals cost $5 each with carry-out available.

The church is handicap-accessible to all areas by way of ramps and an elevator.

Flintwood Wesleyan training program — The first Discipleship Training Program class begins at 9:30 a.m. today at the church, located at 5300 E. 25th St., Columbus. The class will be upstairs in Curry Hall. This class is a New Testament elective on Philippians and will be taught by the Rev. Glenn Black.

Regular activities will be scheduled the week of Oct. 29 to Nov. 3, when the church also serves as a voting center.

The annual Trunk or Treat will be Oct. 31, with free candy, costumes, free food and more surprises. It is a safe place for neighborhood kids to get their treats. Hours for Trunk or Treat are 5 to 8 p.m. Regular Wednesday activities will not be held next week.

First United Methodist education forum — The church, 618 Eighth St., Columbus, will continue its education forum at 10:10 a.m. in Fellowship Hall on Sunday. Open to the public, this week’s session will feature Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. Superintendent Jim Roberts and Flat Rock-Hawcreek Superintendent Shawn Price. Guests will offer their perspective on how challenges have affected the local schools in an exchange with the audience. The group will conclude with the question, “What can we each do locally to help?” All are invited to attend.

The church will present a movie night sing-a-long as part of its Saturday Night Showcase at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 3.

Petersville United Methodist Turkey Supper — The 51st annual Turkey Supper will take place Nov. 2-3 at Petersville United Methodist Church, 2781 N. County Road 500E, Columbus. Serving will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day. Adult tickets will be $12, tickets for children ages 5 to 12 will cost $6, and children 4 and younger eat for free. The menu will include baked turkey, dressing, gravy, noodles, green beans, cranberry relish or applesauce, rolls, dessert and drinks. Carry-out will be available in the annex on the northeast side of the church. Linda and Don Jackson are serving as chairpersons this year, and Connie and Larry Nolting are co-chairs.

Lowell General Baptist — The church will be having the last hymn sing of the year at 7 p.m Nov. 3. Cumberland Thunder from Russell Springs, Kentucky, will be the featured singers. The church is at 2102 Sixth St., Columbus.
