Force inducted into National Academy of Construction

Staff Reports

The National Academy of Construction has elected Harold Force, president of Force Construction Co. Inc. in Columbus, as a member of its Class of 2018.

Force, who is also executive vice president of Force Design, Inc. in Columbus, was inducted Oct. 11 during the academy’s annual meeting at the US Grant Hotel in San Diego, California.

The 2018 Class has 37 new inductees, chosen from more than 300 leaders for election to the academy.

Force is widely known as an adviser to governments and academia, and during his induction he was cited as a leader, activist and strategic thinker who is noted for his sense of obligation to improve the construction industry, according to the academy.

“The 2018 class has been selected based on outstanding contributions to the design and construction industry over a career,” said Wayne Crew, general secretary of the academy. “Harold and his achievements bring added expertise to the academy.”

Force joined the family firm in Columbus after his post-graduate studies at Purdue University — leading the company to its current position as one of the leading contractors in Indiana, the academy said.

Force is highly sought for advice on construction activities from government agencies. He is past president of the Associated General Contractors of Indiana and the Indiana Construction Association.

He designed and built the Bowen High Performance Civil Engineering Laboratory at Purdue.

Force is a registered professional engineer in 11 states and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers.

Purdue honored him with its Civil Engineering Alumni Achievement Award and its College of Engineering Distinguished Engineering Alumni Award.
