Three-vehicle accident in Brown County results in one death

BROWN COUNTY — Once person died and several people were injured in a three-vehicle accident on State Road 46 near Nashville.

Brown County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to State Road 46 East and Old Nashville Road near Nelson Ridge Road at 3:53 p.m. Friday, said Deputy Joshua Stargell, Brown County Sheriff’s Department spokesman.

According to investigators, a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by Sheila Hendricks, Taylorsville, was traveling west on State Road 46 when it struck the rear of a 2012 Hyundai Sonata, driven by Eric Knechtel, Columbus. Hendricks’ vehicle then left the westbound lane and struck an oncoming eastbound 2017 Chevrolet Cruz, being driven by Joy Watson, head-on.

Watson was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital via Lifeline Helicopter for treatment. Watson’s front-seat passenger Baylee Bell, Anderon, was taken to Columbus Regional Health by ambulance for treatment.

A back-seat passenger in Watson’s vehicle, Jane Lyons, Anderson, was pronounced dead at the scene by Brown County Coroner Earl Piper.

Hendricks was taken to Methodist via ambulance for treatment, investigators said.
