Driver arrested on multiple OWI charges with child in the vehicle

Columbus police arrested a local man for operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he was stopped and police found a child in the vehicle with him.

Sgt. Ben Goodin was sent to the area of National Road and Westenedge Drive at 10:20 p.m. Saturday about a vehicle weaving in the road, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Goodin stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Matthew L. Louden, 36, Columbus, Harris said. When speaking with Louden, Goodin detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on Louden’s breath, Harris said. Officers also determined that the child in the vehicle was his child, who was a juvenile.

Louden failed field sobriety tests at the scene and later provided a breath sample of .169 percent, Harris said.

Louden was arrested on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a minor in the vehicle, operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a blood-alcohol content of .15 percent or greater and operating a vehicle while intoxicated – endangerment, Harris said.
