Local singer Mary Claire King performing in Macy’s parade

Columbus native Mary Claire King, an ensemble member of Broadway’s “My Fair Lady,” will be among the show’s performers who will take part in Thursday’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

The street performance in front of the Manhattan Macy’s is expected to occur during the first hour of NBC’s television coverage, which begins at 9 a.m., King said.

A three-minute song from the show will highlight Laura Benanti, cast in the leading role of Eliza Doolittle. Benati performed at the local Cabaret at The Commons July 26.

King will be easy to spot — dressed in all black and the tallest member of the group, she said.

“I am over the moon,” King said from New York City. “This is truly a dream come true for me. I grew up every Thanksgiving coming downstairs, and my mom would be in the kitchen cooking, with the parade on television.”

The 2008 Columbus North graduate, who received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Syracuse University in New York, is the daughter of Pete and Cathy King of Columbus.

King began her latest role in September at the Lincoln Center Theater in New York City, where she lives.
