Local man arrested after overdosing in Columbus restaurant parking lot

A local man was arrested on multiple charges after he overdosed in a Columbus restaurant parking lot.

Columbus police were called to the restaurant in the 1600 block of North National Road at 7 p.m. Friday about an unresponsive man in a vehicle, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The arriving officers located Makaelin J. Wilks, 25, of 31 Cleveland St., in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, which was running, Harris said. Officers also found marijuana and methamphetamine inside the vehicle, he said.

Officers used naloxone to revive Wilks, who was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for medical treatment, Harris said. While at the hospital, officers administered field sobriety tests to Wilks and later requested a blood test, Harris said.

Wilks was arrested and taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana, Harris said.
