Teen injured after 2-vehicle accident in county

Staff Reports

A Columbus teenager was transported by helicopter to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of East County Road 100S and South County Road 650E.

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies said the accident happened at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Philip Artis, 19, Columbus, was driving southbound on County Road 650E when he failed to stop at the intersection, deputies said. His vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by Aaron Klene, 33, North Vernon, who was not injured, deputies said.

Artis was listed in serious condition at Methodist on Monday, hospital officials said.

Klene told investigators he applied his brakes in an attempt to avoid the collision but was unable to, according to investigators.

Sheriff’s deputies called Sgt. T.A. Smith to do a reconstruction of the accident scene.

Assisting agencies included Elizabethtown Fire Department, Columbus Regional Health EMS and LifeLine helicopter.
