Council approves next phase of funding for State Street Revitalization Project

Construction on the next phase of the State Street Revitalization Project is expected to begin in the spring after Columbus City Council members approved funding totaling $1.745 million.

The council on Tuesday voted 5-1 to approve a resolution to fund Phase 2B of the project, which will begin in March or April. City Councilman Tom Dell voted against the funding, while fellow city councilman Frank Miller was absent from the meeting.

Dell said he decided to vote against funding the project since all overhead utilities will be relocated underground.

“I thought we could do the project without burying the power lines,” Dell said.

The work in Phase 2B will involve developing the north side of Third Street from Central Avenue to California Street and will then go north on California Street to Fifth Street, city redevelopment director Heather Pope said.
