Third Street repair taking longer than expected

Repairs to sunken pavement at Third and California streets near downtown Columbus are taking longer than expected.

Columbus Utilities Executive Director Scott Dompke said Friday that the repairs may now require the street to be down to one lane until sometime Tuesday.

At last update, workers had hoped to have all lanes of Third Street open by mid-day on Monday. However, the work is taking longer than expected and the finish date has now been pushed back to Tuesday, Dompke said.

Workers from Culy Contracting in Winchester have been excavating a sinkhole that caused breaking pavement at the intersection earlier this week. Two left lanes of Third Street have been blocked off at the intersection as work continues.
