Jennings Middle School teams sweep Tri-County titles

The Jennings County seventh- and eighth-grade boys basketball teams swept the Tri-County Tournament last weekend.

The Panther eighth-graders beat Seymour 50-15 amd Central 70-69 to finish 23-2. Keegan Manowitz scored 20 points against Seymour. Owen Law scored 24, Manowitz added 22 and Darius Thomas had 11 against Central.

The Jennings seventh-graders beat Seymour 65-47 and Central 52-35. Carter Kent scored 31 points, and Cole Sigler added 20 against Seymour. Kent had 29 and Sigler 11 against Central.

Dominic Allman led Central (18-4) with 13 points, and Connor Hensley added 10. The Chagers beat Northside 51-39 in the semifinals behind 23 points from Hensley and 10 from Allman.

Thirteen Panthers win

Jennings County Middle School competed against Southwestern (Hanover) and Scribner on Thursday. No team score was kept.

Winning for the Panthers were Nick Cortes, Eli Hatton, Evan Rockey, Carson Sorrells, Skyler Cohee, Noah Lawver, Tyler Marksberry, Lane Kirchner, Landon Malone, Jonah Mathews, Teagan Trotter, Jacobi Clark and Nate Doty.

Jennings (7-2) was coming off an 80-48 win against Northside on Tuesday. Winners for the Panthers were Marksberry (75 pounds), James Hatton (80), Malone (85), Cortes (90), Tim Jeffries (95), Mason Sanders (100), Matthews (115), RJ Barberis (120), Sam Burkman (126), Doty (130), Robin Stayton (135), Cohee (141), Trotter (145) and Clark (166).

Monsters stay unbeaten

Monsters of Rock saw its perfect record ended, but did manage to stay unbeaten with a 5-5 tie with Hansons.

Ben Eckhart netted three goals, and Kyle Roshak and Zach Henderson each added one for Monsters (7-0-1). Joshua Phills scored three goals, and Rob Steigerwalt and Erik Spilling each scored once or Hansons (3-4-1).

Matt Street erputed for five goals to lead The Rockpile to a 10-2 win against Toyota Tsunamis. Tyler Houchin and Ellie Lutz each scored twice, and Danie Karius once for Rockpile (7-1). Clayton McNealy and Dalton McNealy scored for Tsunamis (1-6-1).

Our Name Is Earl (6-2) blanked CCA Kutters (4-4) 6-0. Ricky Hooten netted four goals, and Tom Kareus and Darren Eckerty each scored once.

Yoopers picked up its first win, a 4-1 victory against Slappin’ Balls. Ryan Seifring scored three goals and Andy Nagus added one for Yoopers (1-7). Eric Wernke had the goal for Slappin’ Balls (1-6-1).
