Commission offers ‘safe dig’ event

The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission will have a utility safety day in Columbus on March 20.

The event will begin with registration at 7:30 a.m. at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds, 750 W. County Road 200S.

Safety days are designed to educate participants about the Indiana 811 law and the 811 system which is about the needed marking of utility lines before digging.

Classroom-style instruction and a live, mock gas line strike demonstration and emergency response are part of the training. Participants may include excavators, utility employees, locators and emergency responders.
